Gateway Arch National Park

Ah the Gateway to the West. What eloquent words could I possibly muster up to say about this lovely chunk of metal in the middle of Downtown, that has become the definitive icon of St. Louis? Other than the captivating meaning behind it of course. The memorial was established to commemorate the Louisiana Purchase and the subsequent westward movement of American explorers and pioneers. Basically, all of the people we have to thank for Western America. I have so much respect for Pioneers. Mostly because I have won the Oregon Trail a solid 3 times out of 42 tries (probably). But I guess at the end of the day, which way you want to go, depends on where you want to get to.

The arch is also a symbol for the first civil government west of the Mississippi River, as well as the debate over slavery raised by the Dred Scott case. At the bottom of the arch is a visitors center and museum that faces the old courthouse. It’s actually quite captivating when you’re the only one in the park and it’s a beautifully blue day. It was also splendid timing because both the moon and the sun were aligned perfectly in the sky.

And as always, an obligatory mask selfie family photo.
